Google defines the word consistent as acting or done in the same way over time, unchanging in nature, and/or standard. Now there are many other definitions for the word consistent, but for the sake of this post these are the ones that work for me! Over the course of July, I had to be consistent! I had to do one thing everyday for twenty days. That was the standard I had to live up to! I could not change or quit because I had been challenged! Read further to understand what the consistency challenge was all about and to see if I was consistent!
I am not sure if you all know it or not, but I participated in a consistency challenge hosted by Mattie James. Mattie challenged a few of us creators to be showcase of our best selves.
The Consistency Challenge for the month of July began on the sixth. From July 6th-July 31st, 2020, all creators were encouraged to post every weekday. That’s right Monday through Friday for four weeks. That equated to five blog posts per week for a total of twenty blog posts for the month of July.
The first week of this I started strong. I already had previous blog posts drafted. I just never posted them because I didn’t have pictures to accompany the posts. So, I was able to shoot some content to go along with my posts. The second week of the challenge I was still on top of my game. I prepared beforehand and ended up writing two blog posts during the week. That was okay because I still had a head start.
Oh my gosh week three and four came along and I was not sure I was going to make it. I began to struggle. I had a huge event I was planning for work (a drive in movie with food trucks). I was writing blog posts whenever I could. I was writing them at work when I had a spare moment and using old pictures from my phone (there’s almost 10,000 pictures in my phone). Somehow I made it work. Week four crushed me I wrote three posts for the week. I wrote these posts at the last minute, sometimes within minutes to spare to midnight. It was agonizing and I did give up. I was so mad at myself for not completing the twenty posts.
There was a lot of work, blood, sweat and tears that went into this consistency challenge. There were a lot great things I learned about myself. The first thing I learned is that I can do anything I put my mind to. I know this is cliché, but it’s an oldie but goodie. There are times where I doubt myself and I know if I just get into the right mindset… I CAN DO IT!
I learned that although, I did not complete the entire challenge, I still finished strong. Come on I was supposed to post twenty posts during the month of July. Ya girl did eighteen! That isn’t bad at all! I finished at 90% which is a low “A”. I will take a low “A” any day. I am okay content with how I performed during this challenge. I feel proud of myself and I know that I can be successful at this blogging thing lol!
Because of this challenge my monthly views grew exponentially. I had an increase of visitors to my blog. I received so many likes on posts. Things that I never thought I would achieve, I did because of this consistency challenge by Mattie James.
The very last thing I learned is that it is not realistic for me to post every Monday through Friday on my blog. So, the plan is to post every Wednesday. This will give me anywhere from four –five posts per month. I am good with that. My new consistency challenge for myself is to post a blog post once a week. I think I can do that! I know I can do that! Are you a blogger, influencer and/or content creator? Are you challenging yourself? Aside from the blogging community are you challenging yourself in other ways?
How can you apply a consistency challenge to your life?
