If you don’t already know, I live in a teeny tiny small town. Per usual, there’s not really much to do in towns of this size. So, when there’s something new or an event, your best bet is to jump on it. If you don’t jump on it, who knows when you will get out of the house next. It may be a month or two.
Most small towns, have that small town charm, but lack a constant social buzz. As a young and single person, you always have to be on the lookout for the town’s latest happenings. Here’s a quick guide to help you be less bored when it comes to small town living.
First things first, like all of your town’s social media pages. This will keep you abreast of upcoming events like festivals, downtown shopping, and events. These things don’t come around too often, so if you’re looking for something to do, this is your best bet. Remember to turn on post notifications, so you won’t miss anything.
Secondly, it may sound old fashioned but sign up to receive the local newspaper. The town’s newspaper will have a Daily Happenings sections. This section will keep you in the know of all the happenings in your town. My favorite thing to do is cut and clip this section of the newspaper to my fridge. That way I never miss a beat!
Thirdly, as you drive through town and visit local shops look for postings. As your driving, look for banners, signs, and posters. They will be everywhere! Also small towns are known to place flyers in local shops, churches, and event spaces.
Finally, it never hurts to ask. If you want to know what’s happening in your small town, ask another local. Chances are they will because news travels fast in a small town.
Do you live in a small town? How do find things to do? What cool events have you attended?
Love,
Shanna C.
